Charlie...It ain't hubris if you can back it up!

What ever happened to Charlie, now "Charles" Gibson? He seemed nicer when he was "Charlie" on Good Morning America. It seems that when he officially transitioned from a "nice daily variety show" to a "serious news anchor" that he lost his sense of humor, his likeablity, and his objectivity....not that he ever really had much. It is just more obvious now.

His interview with Sarah Palin is the perfect example of biased, one-sided news reporting. He was unfair and unbalanced. He reported, he decided and did not give a dern about what anyone thought...ala Keth Olberman Chris Matthews. Sarah Palin got "Olbermannned" by Gibson. It was a disgrace and so unCharlieGibson-like. You gotta love the "hubris" question. Seriously, who the heck ever uses that word in any interview? I see it in literature or from a podium in a speech, but not in a national interview. Half of America looked at each other and said, "What does hubris mean?" I am sure webster.com got more hubris hits than any other word this year. Webster defines it as excessive pride and self-confidence. I want a self-confident President and V.P. I don't want a team that has to take a poll before they make a decision. We elect people that make decisions like us. We trust them. We don't trust Obama.

Sarah held up well. She has substance. She is the real deal. She is an incredible multi-tasker, a moral leader, a good wife, and a good example of balanced leadership. What she has done in Alaska are real accomplishments. Accomplishments that were part of her job for the people who put her in office. She is a responsible leader. She has the track record. As Dizzy Dean said in 1934, "It ain't braggin' if you can back it up."

Ten reasons why men...at least this man...loves Sarah Palin as VP

Ten reasons why MEN love Sarah Palin....at least THIS man

Here's the ten reasons but not neccessarily in any particular order.

1. She is soooooo easy to look at. Guys dig that. We like the "let the hair down, take the glasses off" thing. Sexy but not trying to be sexy. The pumps. Smart simple styling. Great makeup, Love the WHITE smile (The key that opens up doors!) Great posture. Oh...did I mention the pumps?

2. She is a great wife that compliments her husband to the rest of the country. Her voice is NOT like the typical feminists nails on a chalkboard screech. We wouldnt mind hearing her voice calling our name.

3. She is a good Mom to her kids and a role model for young women. Here's the test: I can confidently tell my 12 year old daughter to watch her and to follow her example. She doesnt need to be a typical radical feminist and have the accompanying nasty attitude. Her professionalism in public service and femininity peacefully coexist. Actually, I think she is a great example of feminism now that I think about it.

4. She knows how to roll with the punches and with things that are beyond her control.
(ie: Politics, Daughter's pregnancy, her special needs son's birth, etc)

5. She's got a plan for energy independence and is not afraid to use it! She is already successfully practicing it at the statewide level.

6. She's not afraid to stand up to special interest environmentalists and the traditional republican good ole boy networks. She is NOT the typical stepford wife, string of pearl wearing GOP'er.

7. She supports her husbands hobby and sports.

8.She believes in God (Something bigger than herself) and practices what she preaches.

9. She's not afraid to get scrappy in sports and outdoorsy activities.

10. She's a proud military mom.

...and if she doesnt mind her husband having a cigar now and then.....then she is absolutely perfect!

Fishing with your kids is not really about fishing

I was invited to speak to a men's group recently. The dramatic monologue was entitled "Lessons from the Creek Side". It was more about the lessons that children learn while fishing. More character and life lessons are learned in one day of fishing than in any other activity. There are 21 specific lessons in a day of fishing.

The list includes Patience, Problem-Solving, Respect for Nature, Cooperation with Others, Dealing with the Unexpected, Self-Sufficiency, Rewards for work, and 14 other valuable lessons dealing with character and life. For instance, he showed how fishing helps one develop a respect for nature. "There are laws that guide what size fish we can take home. If a certain fish is too small, you release it to grow bigger, spawn, and continue to be part of the ecological balance. When you release it, you try to do no harm while removing the hook and gently reintroduce it into the water. This insures that it will live and thrive." Another lesson is one in honesty and respect for the law. "You teach children that there are fishing rules and regulations and they are enforced by game wardens.

Even though there may not be a warden checking your catch, it is up to the individual to honor and abide by those laws even when no one is looking. That is called integrity. The other lessons include:

Planning
Preparation
Dealing with the unexpected
Mechanical Skills
Maintenance
Cooperation with others
Respect for others
Patience
Problem solving
Fine Motor Skills
Restraint
Emergency Preparedness
Respect for Nature
Honesty
Law-Abiding
Marketing Skills
Dealing with Disappointment
Adapt and Improvise
Self Sufficiency
Reward for work
Gratitude

Parents...take your kids fishing. As any true fisherman knows, when you take your kids fishing, it's not really the fish you're after.
Let me know what you think. I'd love to hear from ya!
